About Us

Lakewood is comprised of 560 homes (390 single-family and 170 town homes) built over 2005-2006 by Lennar Homes, covering just over 160 total acres of land along the northern levee of Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie (Dallas County) along Camp Wisdom Road between Matthew Road and Robinson Road. The land was deeded to Lakewood HOA on April 26, 2004.

The neighborhood includes a catch & release fishing pond, picnic area & pavilion, children’s playground area recently renovated in summer 2024, plus walking/jogging trails near and around scenic Joe Pool Lake.

Ecologically, we are in the Blackland Prairie region of Texas. Geologically, we sit between 533-542 feet above sea level.

A recent $29.4 million improvement to Camp Wisdom Road, from Robinson Rd. to Beltline/FM 1382, includes a 4-lane wide roadway that includes paved biking and jogging trails. Phase II of the Balcones Hike & Bike Trail began in 2024 connecting Camp Wisdom’s trails southward along FM 1382 past the entrance of Cedar Hill State Park and beyond the Dogwood Canyon Audubon in Cedar Hill – that’s nearly 5.5 miles of unbroken and unimpeded biking, walking and jogging trails!

The new extension of Camp Wisdom Road from Robinson Rd. to Beltline/FM 1382 has a dedicated bike and walking path.

Young families will also enjoy being just a short walking distance to and from our next door neighbor, Moseley Elementary School.

We are also within walking distance of Parkhill Park on Robinson Road, which includes football and soccer fields for youth sports year-round. The large red pavilion can be rented for parties and gatherings through the GP Parks & Recreation Department. The large vacant lot at Robinson Rd. and Camp Wisdom Rd. is owned by the Grand Prairie ISD and has been undeveloped for 20+ years and with no immediate plans to develop further.

Grand Prairie residents are permitted entrance for free. Plus, every holiday season comes Prairie Lights, one of the go-to drive-thru light attractions for all of North Texas. Or, for overnight stays on Joe Pool Lake, just down Highway 360 a bit there are cabin rentals at Loyd Park, or overnight RV and tent camping at Cedar Hill State Park, just to our southeast off of Beltline/FM 1382. Check for water levels at Joe Pool Lake here. Construction of Joe Pool Lake began in 1977 and completed in 1985 by the Army Corps of Engineers. Impoundment of water began in 1986 and the lake was filled by 1989 with 6,680 acres of surface water and is 72 feet at its deepest point just north of Cedar Hill State Park. The lake has two distinct “arms,” to the north is the Walnut Creek Arm and further south is the Mountain Creek Arm. Joe Pool Lake is managed by the Trinity River Authority with surrounding acreage managed by Texas Parks & Wildlife. The police departments of Grand Prairie and Cedar Hill both patrol the lake by boat. The peninsula that splits the westward arms is known as Estes Park but it undeveloped. The City of Grand Prairie’s “Future Use” map suggests that the goal is to develop a large resort and golf course on this land, probably similar to Lake Grapevine’s Gaylord Texan Resort.
